New Resident Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which library district am I in?

A: Your home library is determined by where you pay your taxes – not by what town you live in or how close a library is to your home.  If you are new to the area, the best way to find out which library district you belong to is to call area libraries and ask them if you are in their district.  Kane county residents may also try using the county clerk's web site to locate this information. You may check out materials from other libraries in the area, but only after you have obtained a valid library card from your home library.  Please note that borrowing privileges may be different for in-district and out-of district patrons at some libraries.  To find out which district you are in, try contacting the following libraries:

Algonquin Area Public Library District (847) 458-6060
Dundee Township Public Library District (847) 428-3661
Crystal Lake Public Library (815) 459-1687
Cary Area Public Library District (847) 639-4210
Huntley Area Public Library District (847) 669-5386
Barrington Public Library District (847) 382-1300

Q. Which school district am I in?

A:  The best way to find out which school district you are in is to call the district administration offices in your area.  Kane county residents may also try using the county clerk's web site.
